The French Open, often termed Roland Garros, is one of the four major tennis grand slam tournaments. It is regarded as the hardest among the others. It was called the French Championship, since its inception in the year 1891. The first French Open was played on grass courts in 1891. It moved to sand courts from 1892 to 1907 and since 1908 it has been finally moved to the red clay court. Most Men’s Singles French Open titles in the Open Era

Rafael Nadal, known as the champion of the clay court, holds the record of winning the most French Open titles, 14 times. Among his contemporaries, only Novak Djokovic has won the title 3 times and the famous tennis legend Roger Federer won it only once in 2009. The next man after Nadal, who stands second in the man’s titles tally, Bjorn Borg, 6 times. Carlos Alcaraz was the youngest player to win this championship title in the recently concluded French Open 2024 tournament. The table shows that Nadal is just far ahead of others in the clay court.

Most Women’s Singles French Open titles in the Open Era

Chris Evert from the USA holds the record of winning the Most Women’s Singles French Open titles 7 times. The next name is Stefi Graff from Germany, who the title 6 times. Iga Świątek from Poland won 4 times overall and 3 consecutive titles (2022, 2023, 2024) in the recent championships. While Serena Williams also won the same no of titles in the last decade.
